The Abode Project - Uganda
On the 4th November 2018, 40 volunteers (most of us strangers) travelled 6,223 miles across the globe from London to Uganda.
We spent a week in Kabale, (which was much greener & more beautiful than I had imagined) working on the exciting development of a new school and orphanage that had been funded by The Abode Project.
Kai Cant is the founder of The Abode Project and set up this charity to help under privileged children and families in Uganda, I'm sure he never imagined that this little charity would become a biannual trip with over 40 volunteers, all donating their time, money and setting up funding websites to come and support Kai and the children of Kabale.
I worked with a local artist named Martin to create a mural on the side of the orphanage, It was so nice to work with him as he has such a different style to me - he paints incredible realistic gorillas and sells them to tourists who have come to Uganda to go on the Gorilla tours.
I also painted the gates at the entrance to the school which took FOREVERRRRRRRR because the paint wouldn't dry and vans full of mud kept wheel spinning coming in and out of the school all day and ruining everything id just painted!! hahaha! However I did get there eventually ....
At the end of a very emotional week for all of us... the school was almost complete and the next trip to Uganda to finish the work and open the school in February was already in talks.
I feel grateful to have been able to brighten up this little school & inspire some of the kids, who would often sit for hours watching me painting and telling me that when they grow up they want to be an artist!...
